Day 1 – Foundation of Love
TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON:
“Jesus Chose Matthew” – Matthew 9:9-13
Welcome to Day 1 of Revival Kids VBS Re-Imagined! Today, our VBS hosts will welcome your construction workers to the start of our fun-filled week together! Kids will be given the Blueprint for the day and watch Day 1 of our animated Concrete and Cranes video. After that, our Worship Rally Kids will get everyone up and moving as we learn the Concrete and Cranes Theme Song.
If you have a Bible, turn to Matthew 9:9-13
“As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor by the sick. But go and learn what this mean: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.'”
In today’s Bible story, Jesus called Matthew a tax collector, to follow Him. Matthew did not seek out Jesus. Instead, Jesus met Matthew where he was and chose Matthew to follow Him. Matthew left everything behind and followed Jesus. Matthew hosted a banquet, and Jesus and His disciples came. The Pharisees complained and questioned why Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus told the Pharisees that He came not for the righteous but for sinners. Jesus was not interested in how good or bad a person was. Jesus wanted people to listen and follow Him because He chose to love them.
Today’s activity is MUSIC. Open the Bible to John 15:9 and ready today’s bonus verse, “As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you. Remain in my love.” These words will be in the song for today. Ask your child to think about what it means to remain in Jesus’ love. Listen to their ideas. Stress that remaining in His love means to think about Jesus’ love to others.
Take out your Activity Book and turn to page 3, “Choices! Choices!”. Ask your child to choose between the different building options. Note that not everyone will choose the same picture, but Jesus chooses to love you no matter what. Isn’t that amazing? You don’t ever have to wonder if Jesus loves you. He does! You can’t do anything to earn Jesus’ love. Jesus chooses to love you.
