LEARN IT
If you have a Bible, turn to Matthew 26:36-46: Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me. Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed,“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
In today’s Bible story, on the last night, Jesus spent with His disciples, He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus was sad and distressed because He knew He was going to die on the cross to save people from their sins. Jesus asked His disciples to remain awake and pray while He went further into the garden. Jesus returned to the disciples three times and found them asleep each time. The last time He told the disciples to get up and follow Him. Jesus knew the time had come to follow through with God’s plan. He was willing to suffer and die on the cross to save us from our sins.

LIVE IT
Today’s activity is MISSIONS. Missionaries are important to our church because they go outside the church walls and spread the gospel. They also tell people about Jesus in other countries. Revival sends missionaries to Mexico, the Philippines, and Nicaragua because not as many people know about Jesus there. Today, your child will have the opportunity to write a message on a postcard to missionary families. (Included in your VBS Take Home Kit) Play the Missions portion of the online video to watch Pastor Cisco share about Revival Missions.

FINISH IT
Take out your Activity Book and turn to page 7, “Window Washer,” and follow the directions to color in different areas of the picture.
Ask: “What did you discover about the picture when you completed it?” Note the picture revealed the shape of a cross.
Ask: “Why is a cross important to a person who believes in Jesus?” Share that Jesus knew what was about to happen to Him. The cross is a symbol that serves as a reminder of the enormous sacrifice that Jesus made for you and me. Remind them that Jesus chose to die for them. Just like Jesus chose to die for you, you get the choice of whether or not to learn more about Jesus.
